Milk of Lime

ABOUT THE COLLECTION

Titled “CHIME”, the third runway collection of Julia Ballardt and Nico Verhaegen, the Belgo-German design duo behind Milk of Lime, touches upon the more dreamy topics of fashion with folkloristic hues and hints to birds, botany and coming-of-age in rural areas. Refined tailoring with raw details and elongated silhouettes with floating cuts paint the overall picture of the collection. Fine silver bells accompany the models’ walk throughout the whole lineup, not only with their chime, but also worn as daisy-chain-like necklaces. The collection exudes a familiar feeling grounded in natural materials and designs that are rich in detail, and features dark, mystic tones such as black and silver, sprinkled with browns and copper accents, lifted by occasional whites and mellow greens, muted by transparent layers of dark silks. Flower prints appear in a natural manner, in a faded, pre-loved way, as if resurrected from one’s grandmother’s vintage wardrobe. A nod to the Milk of Lime main character, the rural poetic punk, is present in the slashed and frayed motives: carefully quilted fabrics with loaded botanic patterns, cut open and distressed. Although at first glance some motives evoke a sweet-ish beauty, they hold deeper meaning by representing poisonous species, revealing a hint of dangerous nature.

ABOUT THE LABEL

Milk of Lime seeks bridges between the rural and the metropolitan, between the unique and the mundane. We are heavily inspired by natural materials themselves and use them as our starting point for our designs. The textures we source in our surroundings find their way into collaged garments and finely manufactured goods, telling sometimes harsh, sometimes romantic stories.
